It’s Not Exactly This Easy…
Do you feel like you know what your body needs, but sometimes it’s hard to adhere to what you know? Do you struggle with losing weight (or even gain weight), even thought you cognitively know what it takes? Do you tell yourself you’re going to eat a certain way, only to watch yourself do something else? Many of us are surrounded by tools and resources for eating right, exercising, and taking care of ourselves on a holistic level. The super-disciplined seem to make it look so easy, and we may even feel their judgment (or at least, make up that they are judging us) as they look at us and wonder why we can’t just do what it takes.
But it’s not always that easy. For many of us it takes years of learning, experimentation, and most importantly, self awareness and self development to get to a point where all of what we know can be implemented without struggle. We are emotional beings, and often the hidden feelings that we haven’t processed can keep us in a space of needing the comfort of the path we’ve previously chosen. We’re not always taught to fulfill our needs first, so even simple things like getting enough sleep can affect our ability to care for ourselves in the ways that we cognitively understand. Our environment is full of addictive substances and behaviors – not just drugs or alcohol, but even some of the simple foods that we may think are healthy may be triggering our bodies to want what’s not good for us. It really isn’t that easy, no matter what any of our born-disciplined friends tell us. For most of us it takes a long process of work on the self before we can learn how to honor our bodies. It takes an exploration of our selves that’s deeper than what one can map out on paper. It takes reading, coaching, exploration, tapping into our resources, and a lot, lot, lot of learning who we truly are.
